Auke Douma

Auke is an inclusive innovation expert at the BoP Innovation Center. Working across sectors and industries, he supports organizations to turn ideas into viable and marketable innovations that lead to inclusive business. Most of Auke’s projects at the BoP innovation Center concern innovations on reducing post-harvest losses or improved waste collection and recycling.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering and a Master’s degree in Strategic Product Design and, both from Delft University of Technology in Delft and including exchanges with the Technical University of Denmark and the University of the Aegean in Greece.

His relatively broad background makes Auke a designer, strategist and engineer all-in-one, allowing him to oversee the various stages and aspects of the innovation process.

Auke’s interest in developing inclusive innovations started while working to solve post-harvest losses for North-Indian agri-based wholesales markets. Extending his stay for a project on developing a market introduction strategy for a hand-powered washing machines in the state in Gujarat, made Auke determined to create impact at the base of the pyramid.
